What do kids like to do? They wiggle! Based on research, some students need more movement than others. Movement allows for alertness and attention. It also is also very important for the development of the child's central nervous system, their brain and their body. The goal is to give students an environment that allows flexible seating. Children who are given the option of alternative seating are known to flourish more in the classroom. They are more comfortable which allows a better time for learning. I would love to begin to transform my classroom by adding wobble chairs for both the younger & older elementary age students I see. Wobble chairs are not only fun & safe but they give children who don't like sitting still the option of getting some wiggles out while doing class work. Similar to but smaller than wobble chairs are the stability cushions. These allow the student to sit in a standard chair or the option to stand on during circle time. Being able to offer these options to my students would be just the beginning of evolving our classroom into an amazing learning environment.
