In our ever-changing world, computers are key to success. In our school, the students get to have computer instruction only about 6 hours every trimester. That is not enough, so I would like to use computers in my room to help instruct and enrich students in small group situations. The students need more time to learn and explore with technology in the classroom. This would also help them learn critical reading and writing skills. I want to help my students DIVE INTO WRITING. Because my fourth grade students are required to type a page in one sitting, I feel that it is important for my students to get as much practice as possible on the computer. They first need to be able to utilize keyboarding skills to produce a written page. I do a lot of small group instruction and plan to use these Chromebooks in my classroom for small group reading and writing. My students will be using Google docs and an online writing program to help produce their writing. While I am busy with a small group of students, it would be helpful to have these computers at centers to have other students busy producing their writing. We will write and type up essays, narratives, and other media presentations, such as power points, weekly. The students will also participate in doing a Genius Hour project during the year. This requires the students to use technology to research, plan, and present a project of their own choosing to the class. I have seen students engaged in these projects so much that they do not want to stop researching and writing. Having resources available in the classroom will allow the students time to work and produce while improving reading and writing skills. Please help me put Chromebooks in our classroom.
