I am requesting books on a variety of Lexile levels and written by a diverse group of authors to give my students an opportunity to explore culturally diverse perspectives and allow them to deepen their understanding of the world. My students will have the opportunity to check books out of the classroom library. Each unit, I will highlight authors and books that relate to the theme of the unit. As students become intrigued by the content, they can continue to explore the topics through the relevant literature to which they will now have access. Sensory toys and alternative seating will meet the needs of a variety of learners, allowing me to support students to be their best selves. I am requesting alternative types of seating (this allows students who need to tap, wiggle, and bounce to help them focus to be able to do so) and sensory toys (these keep student hands occupied so that they can utilize their brains for thinking and learning) for students to use in the classroom. This will allow all students to excel while meeting a variety of student needs. Since approximately 50% of my students have exceptionalities, it is important that I create a space that is friendly to different types of people and learners. Sensory toys and alternative seating will be shared by all students.
