When you're a struggling student it can be hard to stay focused on challenging tasks. Many of my students find ways to cope with rising stress in ways that are unproductive and even distracting to others, but there is a better solution. Research shows that students who can move and fidget while they learn can often focus on learning tasks with more intensity and for longer periods of time. That adds up to more learning and more success just by being able to tip back and forth in a seat! Freedom to move while not distracting others, what a simple solution! And the beauty of this project is that it sets students up for success in a variety of classes all using the same room. These 6th-12 graders will wobble their way to mastery of science, design and engineering, problem solving, character strength development, and school leadership.
