When students know that they have their own space, they tend to be more focused during a lesson. It also helps students learn expectations. In Kindergarten, students don't really comprehend personal space until is is taught repeatedly. The rug will give students a concrete visual understanding of personal space. Most of our daily instruction occurs when students are sitting on the floor. The rug is a great classroom management tool to use in the classroom. It will provide the opportunity to get students ready to learn so that they can focus on learning instead of where each person sits.
