I am applying for this grant to help further develop motor skills for 457 students. The equipment purchased will be incorporated in indoor lessons and in outdoor play. It will provide students a time to learn through practice. In addition to providing the students with the equipment to help develop motor skills, this grant will also help in their overall success inside and outside of the classroom. The physical development in physical education will help students strengthen their coordination and motor skill development. Gross motor skills will help students with balance, coordination, and physical health. The equipment will also encourage physical exertion which is effective with regulating emotions and releasing energy. The times that students play with the equipment will also enhance student’s fine motor skills needed to color, tie their shoes, cut with scissors, and other daily functions. Building their muscles in their hands and fingers along with the control of these muscles are being developed as they play with the balls, jump ropes, and hula hoops. Social development will also be enriched. The equipment being purchased is developmentally appropriate for the students at Marigny Elementary. They will have daily use of the equipment. When the students engage in play while manipulating the equipment, the students will increase the development of their motor skills, which will inevitably bring them confidence and enhance their fitness.
