Let me be honest, this year I got my dream job. I mean, I have been in education for over 20 years, and have loved all my experiences. I have been a substitute teacher, a teacher's aide, and a Library Media Specialist for 7 years. I taught 18 month olds, pre-k, kindergarten, third grade, and now fourth grade gifted. When my daughter qualified for the gifted program back in third grade, it got me interested in delving in to the gifted brain. I began to further my education and get endorsed as a teacher of the gifted. These kids are eager-hungry; all kids are, of course, but these kids, even though they are at various levels on the gifted scale, need more. I want to give my students a math, science, and social studies-rich environment, where they can learn from me, on their own, in groups. I want to give them hands-on experiences--that's how we all learn best, by doing and seeing for ourselves. I want their materials and resources to be current and timely. As of right now, I have a nice collection of math manipulatives, enrichment activities, and computer programs, but am lacking in science and social studies. The carpet will go in the lab/work area, to make it comfortable to work and explore on the floor individually or in groups. I don't have a globe, the one I have is from another teacher and it's as old as me! "TIME for Kids" is an excellent timely resource to keep my students abreast of what is happening in our interesting, unpredictable world. The science kits and supplies will be devoured by my inquisitive students. Their favorite activity each week is when we do a science experiment. We can't wait to get started!
