In education, we have killed students love of reading. How do we get them back to a place where reading is fun and they actually want to do it? We have to give them time and materials they can enjoy. We need high interest reading materials to make reading fun again. Our titles include Water for Elephants, Divergent, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, The Book Thief and many more. I chose books that are current and interesting for my students to independently read. I want them to know the love, joy, and relaxation that can come from a good novel. Many of the books are about teens who face challenges and my students can relate to that as many of them face challenges just to come to school or participate in after school activities instead of babysitting their younger siblings.
