This project will provide specimens and dissection trays that will allow my students to engage in dissections throughout the semester. This hands on learning opportunity will introduce them to a whole new educational experience that they have never encountered in a science classroom, and will equip them with the necessary skills to further their knowledge of anatomy, specifically vital organs including the brain, eye, heart, and kidney. The learning that occurs in a dissection is different from learning that occurs from models, videos, or diagrams, and encourages a sense of discovery, wonder, and engagement fostered by experiential learning. It will also connect them to many medical issues, challenges, and discoveries we are encountering in our world today. The labs that we will do with this material will allow them to experience something exciting and engaging, and hopefully provide a catalyst for them to continue to study science and pursue a science related career. This experience will bring a greater confidence to their abilities in a lab setting and their college or career choices.
