I teach at a Title One school in a Metropolitan area. I attempt each year to have students embrace reading even though they are an average of three grade levels behind. One way that I encourage the students to read is through new novels and memoirs that they can see as relatable to their own lives. As a struggling reader throughout elementary and middle school, I understand the importance of making each piece of literature for my students relatable to their current lives. Not only do I attempt each day to teach them each literature and writing standard set aside by our state, but I also encourage using the technology we have available to have to students as prepared as possible for their high school years. Many of my students struggle to come to school with any resources of their own. They come willing and eager to learn, and I attempt my best to provide the rest.
