My students have requested new items to use during their weekly play therapy sessions. Play therapy gives children a way for them to express their experiences and feelings through a natural, self-guided, and self-healing process. The children use their sessions to communicate through physical play, it becomes an important vehicle for them to know and accept themselves and others. In a session toward the end of the 2015-2016 school year, one student said, "You don't have any dress up toys?" The student appeared to be looking for something to be more active with during their session to help express their experiences and feelings. The items being requests will help reach my goal of creating more physical activity during weekly play therapy sessions. The career costume sets will allow my students to act out their emotions and life experiences during their sessions. The alphabet puppet set will help my students express their needs and wants through active physical play. My students will also use the food items and play people to express the events in their lives that are either supporting and loving them or causing harm. My students and I are looking forward to having these new items available for our daily play therapy sessions.
