Your donations will pave the way to new and exciting literature. A class set of "Wonder" will afford my 5th graders the opportunity to connect to a novel on a more personal and intellectual level.
By providing each child with a copy of "Wonder," a difficult text is made more accessible through shared reading. This enhances comprehension, vocabulary development, and overall enjoyment. The novel supports our current unit titled, "Overcoming Challenges." This book paints a clear picture of what happens to students when they don't fit in and are bullied as a result of it. This book's main theme centers on the challenges that students are faced with at school and how they are able to overcome them.
Students will be able to empathize with the characters in the book; the student that is getting bullied, the bully, or those that stand up to the bully. Through engaging instruction, students will be able to apply reading strategies that will enable them to understand the novel on a deeper level. For example, students will dive into the use and meaning of figurative language and how it enhances writing. My passion is to create lifelong readers. If they have a deep understanding of a novel, the avenues for learning are limitless.
