Currently, Chromebooks are utilized often in my classroom to aid freshman students' academic success. I am, however, confined to sharing a Chromebook cart between four teachers, all of which have different schedules and needs for computers. Utilizing technology is a non-negotiable skill to develop before my high school students enter the working world, and I use Chromebooks as a means to write papers, perform research, design projects and websites, and engage student interests in various ways. By donating to my project, you will not only help us move towards a one-to-one ratio of students to Chromebooks, you would help my students gain the necessary skills they need to develop before moving onto secondary education opportunities. I am a part of an interdisciplinary team of freshman teachers that regularly collaborate to design assignments and projects that reach across disciplines, so my students understand how STEAM shapes their world. These projects develop the ability for students to critically analyze material while considering multiple content perspectives. Having class sets of Chromebooks would enable me to provide more interactive assignments that could span between their subjects as they move from class to class. This will also allow us to better serve our economically disadvantaged students by allowing them the opportunity to create work that has relevance and meaning beyond the classroom walls.
