As a first year teacher, I am in the beginning phases of transforming the traditional classroom we work in, to a collaborative workspace where students have the materials and supplies to complete hands-on projects and experiments. These special projects and activities will redefine what a biology classroom looks like. Over the course of the school year, students will use these supplies to understand scientific concepts and propose solutions to real world problems. Students will complete interdisciplinary labs and create intricate models that help explain our biological world. The lab glassware, lab chemicals, and office supplies will help students build a portfolio of excellent work that they can use to demonstrate their learning each semester. After biology, each student will be ready to enter the workforce or higher education with a broad foundation of scientific concepts as well as a strong sense of teamwork and project management.
