Reading classroom magazines will help students to learn to apply their learning from our English Language Arts and Social Studies classes. In class learning may not be as interesting as reading about the news! Students will want to read and discuss their reading in class debates and then writing about their learning. Learning will come alive if they want to read about the news. This is important so that they can solidify learning our 6th grade standards. In other words not just what we are supposed to read as part of our curriculum, but apply their learning to real reading and real writing from a real magazine!
