In our first-grade classroom, reading is huge. Making sure to include books that represent diverse cultures in the main characters is a big priority for me. This year with in-person learning mostly back to normal, we also hope to be able to read in cozy spaces again. Our classroom needs some new soft furnishings including a big rug, floor pillows, plants and pots and storage baskets for organization for our treasured library. We will all be able to gather on the large area rug for our favorite time of the day: read-aloud time! Small groups of kids will also be able to find a spot during our language arts rotations to read on their own or with a buddy.
