My students have lost so much....first their homes and then their "home away from home"-school. Many of the students are worried about what will happen to their education this school year. These fiction and nonfiction reading passages and reading activities will help the students accomplish their goal of growing as readers even though they have started their school year with devastation. Students will be able to use the text sets to work on areas of need...their weaker comprehension areas. This can be done in small groups. The civilization reading passages tie into Social Studies content. Not only will this help the students become better readers, but it will enhance their ability to read deeper for understanding to be able to explain their thinking about the civilizations. The test prep activities will help the students practice for their standardized tests with reading passages. This will enable students feel more prepared regardless of what they've gone through.
