The lessons and activities that take place on the carpet are an essential component to my first graders' learning experience. Carpet activities help build a strong and caring classroom community and help refocus students' attention. A carpet with clearly delineated seating areas will help my first grade students know where to sit so that they can focus best on the lessons and activities. Having this carpet in our classroom will save invaluable time, as energy can be focused on the providing the best instruction, rather than on directing and redirecting students on where they should sit. This carpet will have an essential and lasting impact on students' learning throughout this school year and in years to come! The whiteboards will provide a hands-on experience for my students while sitting on the carpet as we do number talks, math strategies, and phonics practice. The easel pads will allow me to create anchor charts that my students can refer back to throughout the year to improve retention of learning and the transfer of knowledge across subjects and units. These charts are created with students while sitting on the carpet. This carpet will help to save time and energy arranging students and will provide a colorful and inviting space to learn. I will be able to focus my attention on the instruction, active engagement, and learning that are so critical to building an engaging and caring classroom community.
