The printer ink and mouse pads that will be purchased for our writing project will assist students in crossing-over from writing essays to typing research projects and exposing them to early, college-prep writing styles and techniques. Because my students are from low-income households, many of them have little-to-no computer knowledge or keyboarding skills. Allowing them to research, type, and print their papers will provide them with the necessary tools and writing mechanics needed to succeed in middle school and beyond. In addition, with state testing shifting to 100% computer-based, they will also acquire computer background knowledge and skills to excel on standardized tests. The Writing Project that we will be working on next semester will entail students doing rigorous research on an assigned planet within the Solar System. They will have to follow a template and rubric the explicitly explains my expectations, and what they will be graded on. This project will not only engage students in writing, it will also allow them to learn more about space and the many galaxies that the universe is comprised of. Lastly, the test partitions that will be purchased will provide students with privacy and test security when taking their weekly assessments, benchmark assessments, and state standardized assessments. Being that our class sizes have increased, in comparison to last school year, by approximately 8 students, there is no room to space them out during tests. As a result, the use of testing partitions will serve as their privacy shields to ensure secure and fair testing outcomes.
