My students often come to me with a history of reading below grade level for many years. Their frustration has grown and they have learned to hate to read. My goal is to change negative attitudes toward reading and introduce students to a world where text can be both understood and enjoyed. The Scholastic Magazine and New York Times subscriptions that I am requesting contain colorful and engaging articles and features on topics that matter to my students. The subscriptions also come with a dynamic online resource that will allow me to provide the same article, written at different levels of difficulty, to challenge all of my students--right where they are.
