To give MES second graders an engaging opportunity to learn about the life-cycle, we are going to incubate and hatch chicken and duck eggs in the classroom. Second graders will learn about the life-cycle through candling the eggs to monitor embryo development, observing the difference in number of days needed to hatch, and witnessing the chicks and ducklings hatch. This project is cross curricular, tying science and writing as students will be able to compare and contrast the life-cycles of ducks and chickens. Students learn best through hands on experiences, and this is a project the students will not forget.
