We would like to utilize a program called Cooking to Learn to teach social, life and academic skills. Working in small groups, the students will read and follow the directions. Learning to work together as a team will be a prime time to help teach and reinforce social skills. Following the recipes will reinforce reading and math skills. They students will read the recipes and then incorporate math while measuring. Upon finishing the cooking activity, the program has comprehension and reflections that help teach reading and writing. While working on the academics, students will also learn table manners, sanitary cooking practices, and cooking skills that will be needed for their adult life. At our school we do not have access to a kitchen or kitchen materials. These materials will help us use the program "Cooking To Learn" to it's fullest potential. We will cook while we increasing our mathematical, language arts, and life skills. These small appliances such as the microwave, blender, toaster and materials will be use to do the cooking portion of the Cooking to Learn activities. Our school does not have a classroom kitchen the students can use. These material will allow the students to gain the life skills of cooking the would otherwise not gain because there is no place for us to cook here at school.
