We need books? For the most part, we are expected to privately fund our classroom libraries. I need your help. My kids love books and eagerly await fresh new books with ideas and plots that will influence their worlds, and hopefully, create a passion for reading that might otherwise be lacking, in a library of previously loved books. Even after I infused books through my own purchases, I cannot afford the larger variety of books that my students need to experience reading a a height of enjoyment. Why a need? Rather than a want? My students need access to a wider range of texts. Over half the books in my library are over ten years old. Our classroom library is the central location for students to find books. Even the school library receives less than $1,000 for seven grade levels for new books. I need your help because my students deserve access to books. My students need to experience other cultures. For example, I am seeking unit of books from Kekla Magoon. They also need to see how authors like Jennifer Holm write a variety of texts. My hope is that students studying authors like Jennifer Holm and Barbara O'Connor will carry over in to their writing. If our classroom library is the heartbeat of my student's reading lives, they deserve to have regular access to books, new books, that will change their lives.
