STEAM requires the ability to obtain materials needed to solve a complex problem. The students are ready and willing to put the time in to solving a dire community issue. However, the need for materials is great. The materials requested are needed to research, design, build and test our flooding semi-permanent berm. Students will test different absorbent materials and berm packaging to see which would be more useful in a real world situation. When the supplies are at hand, students are able to progress more rapidly in their project design and testing. The funding for the materials will allow for us to jump right in to working on a solution to tidal flooding and storm surge.
