My students need hands-on activities and math manipulatives to explore during small group math block stations and whole group instruction. In previous years, my school ability grouped students for math and reading instruction. This is the first year that students are not being grouped, and teachers are required to differentiate instruction. The Discovery Cans, common core math practice cards, multiplication game, and other materials will provide quality activities for students of all ability levels during math stations. While students are engaged in these activities, I will be able to meet with small groups of students to check understanding, provide reteaching, or provide higher level thinking questions to high ability students. Students will also use these materials while learning and exploring fractions, decimals, and percents during whole group instruction. Your generous donation to our project will improve our fifth-grade classroom by building student confidence and mathematical knowledge. These materials target essential fifth-grade skills and focus on solving real-world mathematical problems. This will change my students' lives because they will gain confidence in their skills and have fun while learning! Differentiated instruction benefits all students!
