My students are avid readers, but unfortunately, I do not have many books of my own to contribute to our classroom library. As a first-year teacher, I am doing what I can to make sure I stock the nearly empty bookshelves in our classroom. I've been looking for secondhand books everywhere I shop, but unfortunately, not many of them are what the kids consider to be relevant . Many of the books are outdated or feature characters who possess vast differences from my students. I'd like to add books that are popular today for their enjoyment. I also want to add books which feature non-white characters in an effort to make my students feel visible. I just want my kids to have access to books they will read!
