The fiction and nonfiction books in this project are part of a unit of study designed to help students understand how and why the Titanic sank as well as understand the dynamics of the class system. Students will be reading informational articles as well as the novels to understand how fiction and nonfiction are related. Students will have the opportunity to explore and research the theories of how and why the Titanic sank and come up with their own theories based on their research. Putting books in the hands of students is the most powerful way to extend learning. These books will help me to continue to foster and develop a lifelong love of reading in my students. Our goal at the end of the unit is to take the students to see the Titanic exhibit so that they can truly have an all inclusive learning experience. These materials will help make learning come alive for my students.
