As an educator, I recognize that not all students listen and learn the same way. Some may need to wiggle in their chairs, while others may benefit from having a sensory chair cushion. Children should not always be expected to sit criss-cross with their hands in their laps. Eventually, I would like to provide more alternative seating options for my students' different styles of learning. For now, I'm starting off with stools and cushions to gain a sense of how else I can fulfill their future needs. Some of my students only get fed at school. We provide breakfast and lunch, however I would also like to provide my students with an end-of-day snack, especially for those who will oftentimes go to bed without dinner. Since hunger has an impact of learning and health, I want to ensure my students have what they need to show up to school and make the most of their learning. Additionally, some students will show up to school with a few basic supplies, while others will have none. The last thing I want my students and their parents to worry about is coming up with the extra money to supply basic classroom needs. Items such as glue sticks, notebooks, homework folders, writing utensils, and construction paper are all items that were chosen, because they are used frequently; therefore, students go through them quickly. The glue sticks and construction paper will be used for hands-on learning activities and free choice. Pencils and notebooks will be used for handwriting practice and Writer's Workshop. Colored pencils will be used to illustrate writing and for free draw during indoor recess. Dry erase markers will accompany our small whiteboards for interactive learning during math. Lastly, the Legos and Lincoln Logs are for imaginary play.
