Our students are busy. One of the main things we work on is being able to attend to an undesired activity. An undesired activity can be classwork. We want our students to be successful. To help our students be successful, we have to meet their other needs so that they have the ability to concentrate and attend to an activity.
Movement and physical activity help to give our students the input they need in order to sit and concentrate. By moving for at least 60 minutes a day, we can meet their needs and encourage a healthy active lifestyle. We need a way for the students to expend their energy. My students want a swing. Swinging will help with vestibular input and help students to calm down. My students asked for a trampoline. The trampoline will help students exert the overabundance of energy and can be used to self soothe. My students want a tricycle. Finally, the bike will help the students work on important gross motor skills while getting the physical rigor they need.
The students in our class all have gross and fine motor skills that need strengthened. By receiving this grant, we will not only help our students to be able to concentrate and successfully learn, but also it will help us to strengthen their fine and gross motor muscles.
