The #classroombookaday challenge was started by Jillian Heise, inspired by Donalyn Miller's #bookaday challenge. The goal of the challenge is to read aloud one picture book every day of the school year, for a total of 180 books. These books are strategically chosen to improve the classroom community, teach specific literacy skills, spark imagination, and inspire a love of books and reading. My students and I will be taking on this challenge to read 180 books this school year! Many of these books will be used as classroom conversation starters for topics such as tolerance, respect, inclusivity, compassion, and kindness. They will also be used as mentor texts for practicing reading skills such as cause/effect, compare/contrast, and inference. Once we have read each picture book, they will be added to our classroom library for students to check out and bring home to share with their families. These books will remain in my classroom library to be enjoyed by all of my future students for years to come.
