The document camera and classroom supplies will be used every day in our math classes. This year, I am anticipating to use interactive math notebooks to enhance students' conceptual understanding and organizational skills. With the transition to Common Core mathematics, students are not required to not only learn math procedurally but also conceptually so that they can proficiently explain their thinking processes using verbal and written language. In low-income communities, schools often cannot provide many resources for students; teachers cannot make as many copies as needed to provide students handouts or worksheets. Therefore, I am hoping to use interactive math notebooks to not only save school resources but also to teach organizational skills that they will use throughout their academic careers. For a second year teacher who moves around three different classrooms every day, a portable document camera and class supplies such as these will greatly help not only the teacher but also, ultimately, newly arrived English Learning students.
