My students love to come together as a group to work on projects and they absolutely love to be read to during our literature read alouds. The rug also helps those students who are challenged sitting in a desk for long periods of time to release some of their energy and stress. I also find that students feel more comfortable about sharing their ideas and expressing their opinions when they're in a more intimate group. I think this smaller group setting alleviates the nervousness that many students feel when sitting at their desks and responding to questions or giving answers.
