I teach AP English Language and Composition, PSAT and ACT Prep, and an Innovations elective at a large public high school in Alabama. My students are, for the most part - pretty highly motivated, but many are also still limited in resources and experiences. Our public funding is minimal for things like novel sets, consumables, creative classroom strategies, and field trips. I love for students to always strive to get out of their comfort zones, and my classroom motto is "Bite the Blue Apple," a metaphorical reference to the idea that some of our most important learning moments happen when we do not know the exact result of something we attempt. I also sponsor our school's Destination Imagination creative problem solving program and firmly believe that we can ALL nurture our creativity and problem-solving skills, no matter our age!
