We are currently learning about Earth Day and how to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Seeing as how many of our students come from low-income families, I want to show them how a garden can provide a lot of food. Our cafeteria deals with barrels of food waste. Also, we have access to shredded paper from our office and grass clippings when our lawns are mowed. These are usually tossed in the trash. I would like to show my students how we can transform that green waste into rich soil by using the worm and bacteria composters. We can then use that soil to grow vegetables that we can all enjoy!
