Making sure my students are comfortable at the carpet is an essential component in motivating them while they are learning. My students are engaged and use our carpet as our “gathering place” to learn. They would much rather have class at the carpet versus sitting in a hard desk while I teach whole group. My students get to make wise choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get to have much more “think-pair-share” time with their partners! This allows students to develop good peer relationships and learn how to communicate respectfully and effectively! We will use this carpet for our morning message, small and whole group lessons, calendar, independent work time, "brain break" spots, and as a flexible reading space. With this project, we hope students will feel welcome to our “gathering place,” that includes a new carpet for students to do their best learning!
