Hello! My name is Ms. Powers and I am a 5th grade inclusion teacher in a Boston Public School. This is my first year as a classroom teacher and love it! Prior to having my own classroom I was a technology instructor and an ESL teacher. The community in which my school is located in is considered high need. The population is predominantly Hispanic and low socio-economic standing. Many students have parents who are immigrants to our country or are immigrants themselves. We have a large amount of students who's native language is not English and qualify for ESL services. The family structures within our community are also highly diverse. Aside from a strong ESL population within my classroom we are also an inclusion environment. This means my classroom welcomes all students regardless of ability. I find this to be extremely helpful for all students' academic, social, and emotional growth.
