Our current classroom is full of different special needs but we are lacking in one area. We need help making over a small room connected to our classroom into a sensory room. A sensory room is a therapeutic space with a variety of equipment that provides students with special needs with personalized sensory input that helps these children calm and focus themselves so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with others.
This sensory room will make a worlds of a difference with my students daily education. Students have scheduled times to use the sensory room or they use the room when they are overwhelmed. Light filters to dim the harsh lights, a fish tank and swing to help calm or motivate students, fiber optic lights and essential oils to help them as well will teach them how to self regulate so they can be ready to learn through out the day. Starting with these items will help kick off our makeover in creating a great stimulating sensory room for all our students.
