My students need culturally relevant, leveled, and engaging books to help them reach their academic goals. A majority of my classroom are classified as English Language Learners, meaning they are registered as having English as their second language. Many of these English learners have struggled to meet their goals on academic benchmarks, resulting in very low scores. In order to push our students to succeed, we need to get our students invested in reading. They will get them invested if they have books they can relate to and enjoy. Our school and classroom libraries have a very limited selection, with students often feeling frustrated with their lack of options. Our students deserve the best, and it is our job to give it to them.
