I teach 4th grade at a Title 1 school in Bristol, CT. I've decided to make a big change to my morning routine this school year. I want to provide my students time to be creative, build, and play! The items I have requested foster teamwork, problem solving, social skills, brain building, and just plain fun! For many students, it's hard to come in and simply sit down and start working. They need time to settle down and get some of their chattiness out. My hope is that by letting them play and socialize to start the day, they will be more focused when we start the academic part of our day. I also hope that those students who struggle in the morning because they're tired or anxious about school will find this to be a smoother (and more fun) start to their school day.
