"There's no place like home at school" is the name of my project. Many of my students have lost everything due to this flood. We started school today (September 12) and I heard story after story of survival and perseverance. I want my classroom to be a home away from home. Many students are living with other family members, in RV's, mobile homes or hotel rooms. The chairs, rug and table create a student study corner for my students. It creates a welcoming environment as well as motivates my students to be hard workers to earn their spot at home. It allows me a "safe" corner when I talk to my students one on one. There is also a document camera in my project that will help my students see documents on the smart board. During the flood, I lost many items. Some of them were technology that helped me teach. This document camera will help students see worksheets and workbook during this time with no copy machine that create worksheets for each student. We are slowly rebuilding our junior high school one classroom at a time.
