I am a public education elementary school teacher teaching in a Title I school. Title I schools are public schools that receive extra funding from the government due to the amount of students who are identified as at-risk and/or living in poverty. A majority of my students are English Language Learners who come from low-income families. My students are unique in that they face many extraordinary challenges and situations every day outside of school. Because of this, it can be difficult for them to stay focused on learning. Many students do not have the means or support to buy their own supplies and books, yet still come to school each day eager to learn. They persevere despite these challenges, and for that I am honored to be able to call myself their teacher.
