As stated above, my students need math games and picture books to engage, enhance, and assist with mastery of foundational mathematical concepts and skills. My students are energetic and have a difficult time focusing for extended periods of time. Students in my classroom do best when learning through the use of games, picture books, and hands-on activities. It is also proven through observations and research that the above activities are the best way to help students master foundational skills. These are skills that students need mastery of prior to moving onto more difficult mathematical concepts. Not only will math games enhance learning and lengthen focus, but incorporating picture books into our math block will connect reading and math. Picture books can and will be used to introduce concepts to students in an engaging and effective way. Additionally, these books can be used as a brain break to split the math block into smaller chunks of times. This help students focus and provides them with a necessary break. Students can also read these books independently during our independent reading time. Books are a great way to make learning fun and doing so in math with strengthen the connection between reading and math. My students absolutely love math games. They are instantly engaged and are very motivated by them, as well. Games are a proven way to effectively teach students foundational math skills. Having the opportunity to provide my students with a variety of game will provide them with numerous opportunities to master and practice skills. I can't wait to help my students develop a love for math through the use of games and picture books! Math truly is everywhere!
