There are many parallels between the conflicts experienced in Harry Potter and the complex world my students are growing up in. Through the captivating story of the young wizard, the students will be challenged to make connections to today's news and the issues they will encounter in their own lives and in society at large. As an enrichment course, my goal is to engage them in high-interest projects that encourage critical thinking and real-world application. After reading the books as a class, we will engage in a collaborative process of discussion, research and writing to draw comparisons between Harry Potter and today's world. The goal is to make real-world problems interesting and comprehensible through the magic of fiction.
