In order for your body to be engaged, your mind must first be engaged. Many studies have shown an improvement in student performance when regular chairs were replaced with stability balls. Six and seven year olds cannot (and should not be expected) to sit still during independent work. Allowing movement during work time can increase productivity and focus while also improving core strength. While on the stability balls, students are able to constantly move. This constant movement, whether it be bouncing or rolling, results in an increase in focus. This technique has often been used with students who have attention disorders, benefits have been shown in all students.
