My students are learning to read in English, and sometimes finding interesting reading material for middle school students is difficult. They don't want texts that look like they belong in an elementary classroom. They crave current, age-appropriate topics. Scholastic Action magazine is specifically designed for struggling middle school readers so it helps kids with vocabulary, grammar, and reading strategies while exploring different fiction and nonfiction genres. Also, Scholastic Action has a digital learning component that has leveled articles for differentiation, text-to-speech audio for those who need it, and videos. I really believe that there is something to get every kid hooked! When I was a student, I loved monthly classroom magazines. It was always exciting to see what was in the next issue! I hope to foster that excitement for reading with my students.
