After reading articles of free choice seating and then seeing a colleague try this new way of learning within her classroom, I moved to flexible seating in my classroom last year and saw how beneficial it was to my first graders. They loved being able to choose where they would work. My students who had trouble working at their desks, flourished when given the opportunity to sit and work how they wanted. Because it was new to me, I didn't have very many options for my students, so these new materials such as bean bags chairs, stools and lap trays would provide my children with the opportunity to learn around the room and grow.
