My students are low to middle income students who love coming to school and spending time in the classroom. They learn very quickly that reading is the key to success. I have collected well over 1,000 books, magazines, etc. for them to choose from but they really need that special place to stretch out and read. Even as adults we can't just sit still in a chair at a desk all day, so why would we expect kids to? Having a spacious, comfortable rug in the classroom not only would provide my kiddos a great place to read but also a spot for them to work cooperatively during centers and math time.
