My students read a variety of texts to support their understanding of local, national, and global issues. Trevor Noah's Born a Crime is applicable to many current issues facing our youth. His novel is approachable; the stories are entertaining, as well as impactful. The students will be able to use it as an anchor to other shorter pieces they are reading throughout the year. By donating to this project, you will put novels in the hands of students who will be evaluating arguments pertaining to education, racial injustice, equity, language, poverty/wealth, and how these experiences are universal. Not only are you supporting literacy in our most motivated students, you are also providing an awareness of difference and commonality across nationalities, race, language, and socioeconomic status.
