My classroom has hard floors with desks. Children learn in many different ways. Most of my students like to sit on the floor, and unfortunately use a sweatshirt to sit on. Having a rug in the classroom would be pleasurable to the students, because they can transition quickly to the rug. They do not need to worry about getting their sweatshirt and setting it down on the cold floor. I believe teaching with an easel, while students are seated on a rug, provides a meaningful lesson, because it is more interactive. I am now on their level, and the accountable talk flows. The students do not feel like everyone is watching them, like when they raise their hand. Everyone is equal including me the teacher!
