The books will allow my students to have something they can call their own. I won't have to make copies and spend time passing them out. They can highlight in the books and write in the margins. They are culturally relevant which will help with motivation and engagement. Pencils are needed because they never come to school with one. Because my children have special needs and have an IEP, they can't stay focused for a long amount of time. I need incentives like play-doh or bouncy balls as motivation for them to continue to do their work. It should increase interest and the desire to want to read.
